Team Feature: Francisco Segura, PT

For this month, our featured team member is Physical Therapist, Francisco Segura!

Francisco has experience working in pediatric Physical Therapy for three years. He also has two years of experience working in neuro-rehab (inpatient and outpatient), as well as two years of acute rehab experience. Initially, Francisco was drawn toward Physical Therapy when he would accompany his aunt to her appointments and help with interpretation. He likes that the Physical Therapist would listen and spend more time providing patient care. When he started working in his profession, he never thought he would be interested in working with children. Francisco’s plan was to make a secure living by working at a hospital or a rehab center, but he quickly found that did not hold his interest enough. Fortunately, he was able to find a rehab facility where he worked with the middle-aged population and was able to work on higher-level activities with his patients. It was that facility where he then transitioned from working in adult rehab to a pediatric rehab center. Although this transition was uncomfortable for Francisco because he had not yet worked with children and pediatrics was not the path he anticipated, he stuck with it because he felt it was a challenge and it was fun!

From that point, the company he worked with opened a new facility that specialized in neuro-rehab, so Francisco decided to give that a try. Eventually, he took on the role of Director of Rehab of the facility. It became apparent to him at that point that he preferred to be more hands-on in his work. After that, he decided to combine his passion for neurodevelopment and pediatrics and started working at an outpatient pediatric facility. Francisco really enjoyed his time working there, but the continuity of care was not what he was seeking.

“I am now thrilled to be a part of the Tilton’s Therapy team where I will be able to follow my passion and the continued development of my patients in a home environment.”

Francisco enjoys helping his patients find balance and a stable base in which their mobility can flourish. His approach is that the balance does not always have to be physical, it can also be cognitive and emotional. After gaining experience working in a restaurant for eight years while pursuing his undergraduate degree, Francisco learned how to deal with people and work under stressful situations. He received a Bachelor in Exercise Science degree from Cal State Los Angeles in 2011 and went on to receive a Doctor of Physical Therapy degree from Touro University in 2014.

In terms of giving back to his profession, Francisco has experience working as a clinical instructor to four students thus far. He also enjoys helping new graduates by easing any worries they may have as they transition from school into their new careers.

Francisco is originally from Los Angeles, CA but has lived in Henderson, NV for the past ten years. He enjoys the fact that there are numerous parks and walking trails in the area. During his time in Nevada, he has also been fortunate to make some close friendships while he has been here. Some of Francisco’s pastimes are going for long walks, gardening, hosting dinner with a friend or two (he is not particularly a fan of large gatherings), learning about philosophy or sciences, inventing and finances, and spending time with his family.

“I am passionate about life! I have been through some rough times and have learned to find positivity. Starting a family and working with kids also makes me passionate about the future.”

Thank you Francisco for your dedication to your work in Physical Therapy and for your passion!
