Team Feature: Itzel Martinez

This month we are featuring team member Itzel Martinez, our Patient Coordinator/Spanish Interpreter/Translator!

Itzel is originally from sunny San Diego, CA but has lived in Las Vegas, NV for over 10 years. She attended high school and college in Las Vegas before moving back to San Diego to begin working as an Instructional Assistant in Special Education. In San Diego, Itzel completed two years of American Sign Language Educational Interpreter courses through the Sweetwater High School Union District. At that time, she was offered a position with San Diego Charter Schools as a Spanish Translator which kickstarted her career in interpreting and translating.

Growing up Itzel had a close relationship with her younger sister who is deaf, which inspired her to continue learning ASL and aim toward helping people within the Deaf Community. In 2021, Itzel earned an Associate’s Degree in Deaf Studies from the College of Southern Nevada. She is also an active member of CSN's Deaf Club. Itzel’s career goals include continuing her education in Speech-Language Pathology. She has worked in similar industries such as education, human resources, and the medical industry spanning seven years.

When asked what originally drew her to pursue this profession, Itzel stated, “I have a passion for helping others in the ways I can best offer my skill set and deliver consistent care with kindness and excellence.” Itzel values the concept of good communication consisting of transparency, honesty, and openness.

Itzel has a four-year-old daughter and an eight-year-old German Shepherd dog named Wendy-Bird. Together they enjoy going to the beach, hiking, playing baseball, and taking long walks at the park. Some of Itzel’s other passions include traveling, concerts, reading, practicing Yoga, and attending hot pilates classes. She loves the diversity that Las Vegas has to offer whether it is entertainment, great food, nature, or the multitude of amazing destinations just a short road trip away.

Thank you, Itzel, for your dedication and passion for the work that you do with the Tilton’s Therapy team!
