This month, we are featuring our amazing Physical Therapist, Emily Walthers von Alten!

Emily graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Allied Health Kinesiology before proceeding to earn a Doctorate in Physical Therapy, both at UNLV. In 2018, Emily started working with Tilton’s Therapy as she was easily inspired to work with kids in their natural environment after seeing children persevere and improve with therapy regardless of obstacles they face. She expressed that children and families with special needs are the most amazing people she has ever met. Emily first became interested in this industry while she was pursuing her undergraduate education.

Throughout her career, Emily has had the opportunity to work in other settings, such as inpatient acute care (hospital setting) with specific training for highly medically involved adults and wound care. She also has some professional experience in early intervention, pediatric/adult outpatient, adult rehab, and pediatric inpatient settings. Emily also intends on assisting to establish a professional relationship with the university to establish a student and mentorship program. The aspect she enjoys most about her profession is the opportunity to adapt therapeutic activities based on each family’s or child’s needs, goals, and current ability.

Originally, Emily is from a small town in the mountains of Colorado called Conifer. She lived in Las Vegas for 11 years and enjoyed watching the community grow and work together before she relocated to Northern Nevada. In her spare time, Emily enjoys spending time with her husband visiting national parks, hiking, biking, working out, and watching documentaries. She is passionate about helping to provide kids and families of all abilities opportunities to experience the outdoors and spend quality time together. Emily recently welcomed a daughter to her family in 2021.

“I hope to advocate for families and kiddos of all abilities to reach their goals to live as actively and independently as possible.”
