Winter Word Blizzard
In this activity, participants will sort and categorize winter-themed words while practicing speech fluency and language skills.
You’ll Need:
Printable Snowflake Word Cards (find these in our app for download)
Large index cards or a sheet of paper labeled with the categories: Weather, Clothing, Activities, Animals
How to Play:
Option 1: Word Sort
Print and cut out the Snowflake Word Cards and write categories on index cards or sheets of paper.
Spread out the snowflake cards on a flat surface.
Take turns picking a word card, saying the word aloud, and placing it under the correct category label.
Encourage participants to explain their choices (e.g., “I put ‘mittens’ under ‘Clothing’ because it’s something you wear in winter.”).
Option 2: Blizzard Challenge
Shuffle the snowflake cards and place them in a pile.
Set a timer for 1-2 minutes.
Participants draw a word card, say the word aloud, and quickly place it in the correct category.
Count how many words they sorted correctly within the time limit.
Option 3: Story Builder
Participants pick 3-5 snowflake cards and use the words to create a short winter-themed story.
They can work individually or collaboratively to tell the story aloud or write it down.
Therapeutic Benefits:
Articulation: Encourages clear pronunciation of winter-related vocabulary.
Language: Builds vocabulary and strengthens sentence-building skills.
