Priority Pyramid

Our Priority Pyramid Worksheet is a therapy activity that helps participants organize tasks by importance, urgency, and energy level. Using a simple three-level pyramid, you can identify what needs to be done first, what can wait, and what can be simplified or supported. This activity encourages planning, decision-making, and realistic task management for everyday routines.

Top: Must Do Today

For tasks that are important, time-sensitive, or necessary.

Examples:

  • Take medication

  • Attend appointment

  • Pay bill due today

  • Eat a meal

  • Call caregiver or provider

Middle: Can Do Soon

For tasks that matter, but do not need to happen immediately.

Examples:

  • Fold laundry

  • Plan groceries

  • Respond to a message

  • Organize paperwork

  • Schedule an appointment

Bottom: Can Simplify, Ask for Help, or Let Go

For tasks that may be too much right now, can be reduced, or can be delegated.

Examples:

  • Clean the whole room → clean one surface

  • Cook a full meal → make a simple snack

  • Run all errands → choose one errand

  • Do it alone → ask someone to help

  • Finish everything → choose a stopping point

How the Activity Works

  1. List any tasks you are thinking about that need to get done.

  2. Place each task into one level of the pyramid.

  3. Choose one task from the top section to start with.

  4. Identify one task from the bottom section that can be simplified, delayed, or supported.

  5. Optional: Revisit the pyramid later and move tasks if priorities change.
